Well, I haven't done a very good job of keeping this blog up to date, but I've had a lot going on. I'll be back-filling stories onto the blog now, so keep your eyes out for many more updates. By the way, I've built a new site in case you didn't notice. I'm still using Kirby, but I've completely…

So one month after first publishing Mattir, I decided I wasn't happy with the front-end design. At the time I was still learning my way around the system that runs the site (the CMS) and grasping the code-style and technique got in the way of me coming up with and implementing some of the more…
Whoo!!! It works! This site was built using the fantastic CMS, Kirby. It is a file-based CMS (that's "content management system" for those less web-savvy) which means there's no database to mess with. The rest of the site has been hand-coded by your's truly using web standards like HTML5,…

Hello, I'm Matt, a fella from Atlanta, GA. I love technology, software, and designing websites (among lots of other things). This is my personal website where I share news, photos, stories, and fun projects—or other things happening in my life—with you. I hope you enjoy your time here, feel free to leave a comment or send me a message. Thanks for coming by and visiting!
About this site
I built Mattir to be my "home-base" out here on the web. I use this site as a test-bed for learning new web development skills and for sharing my story with you.
This site also lets me share with my friends, family, and random strangers on the internet (hey that's what it's really about right?) and still maintain complete control over the content I post, and who can do what with it - which can't be done on the big social networks. You can read more about that decision and it's effects on my about page. I also provide info about how this site was built there in case you're interested.
About Matt Gilbert
Originally from New York, I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2008. I'm generally interested in all things "tech" and am an avid learner.
I like to think of myself as a modern-day Indiana Jones. On one side, I have a bunch of geeky technology-related interests and I work a fairly "geeky" job. And on the other side, I do things like build motorcycles, hike through nature, shoot guns, and fight Nazis (OK, not so much that last one). I write about the wide-ranging stuff I'm doing here on this site, so don't be surprised if you are reading a post about a motorcycle trip I took, then read the next article discussing the finer points of the Star Wars mythos, or how to wire a battery-pack for an electric bicycle.
